BERT 10th Anniversary
Scotland Road Trip VII
...lo it came to pass that the 10th Anniversary of four blokes embarking on an epic road trip did arrive. I'd like to say there were plans, but we're bad at planning. There were ideas I suppose, maybe one last epic Euro trip getting the original crew back together. So that might be logistically something we can't really do anymore, other ideas were mentioned occasionally, but ultimately Scotland works; it's local, it's cheap and it's simple now we've got it down to a fine art. Four of us planned to go, two arrived. Team Porsche from BERT 14 no less, and we were going to make this happen one way or another!
Our base of operations was somewhat remote this time, being a long journey on a single track road to get there. But the location was pretty as hell, the picture below was just out front of the large cottage we rented for much less than our usual place at Dornie. Of course our main reasoning was that it was cheap, we just used it as an experiment to see if it being cheaper was badly offset by the long journey to get from there back to civilisation.
I'm happy to say that it worked. One day of bad weather where we stopped in. The rest it was glorious and we were out and about. Sadly we didn't take that many photos, mainly because you've seen them all before. But I'll tack one below of the cottage.
The cottage was the one next to the tree on the right
We came to many conclusions this trip. One important revelation was that it was possible to survive on pizza and beans on toast, only eating out for cake and what have you. The other one I suppose is that as these things have gone on, we've become much more laid back. I think the driving now is really just an excuse, and it's still enjoyable, but it's way more laid back. It is, and I suppose it always has been, about the craic. A small group of like-minded folks chilling in the Scottish countryside in little sports cars talking shit. Long may it continue.
I'll leave it with an obligatory snap of Applecross by Rod.
